I rubbed sweat out of my eyes and took a quick glance around the stuffy room. People were milling around doing whatever it is people do while they’re trying not to work out. Checking Facebook, changing Pandora stations, writing a book (I’m looking at you Jeremy Mangerchine).
Anywho, I started toward the water fountain and almost made it before I felt a tug on my spirit. I raised my head to watch a guy and girl, probably a decade younger than me, chatting beside a machine. I only had to study them for a moment before I saw a diamond form over her head, and the word, encourager, hover above his.
So, I changed course until the two noticed a stranger was standing in front of them. “Hey,” I spouted. “How’s it going?”
The girl glanced at the guy who answered, “Fine.”
“Yeah, well, my name’s Jesse and sometimes the Lord shows me things for different people. Would it be okay if I told you what he showed me for you?”
He shot her a look and shrugged. “Sure?”
I faced the girl. “I just want you to know that when I looked at you a few seconds ago I saw a large diamond over your head. I sense that the Lord wants you to know that you are a precious jewel to him. Even more than that because your sparkle and beauty to him goes way beyond any type of gem that can be found here on the earth. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done or what you’ve been through, it hasn’t tarnished you in his eyes. You shine bright, and he loves you so much.”
As her eyes filled I turned to the astonished-looking guy. “And I want you to know that I saw the word, encourager, appear above your head. I sense that the Lord has given you a passion to see people succeed, and that you love to build others up. That’s a gift from the Lord, and he has blessed you greatly in it. He is using you to lift others up, and he’s going to lift you up.”
I gazed back and forth between them for a few moments. She was swiping at a tear while he beamed. “Well, I think that’s it. You guys are awesome. Have a great day!”
I reached the water fountain but I wasn’t really thirsty anymore. We’d just drunk from the well and how could I ever be thirsty again (see what I did there with Jesus…and the well…yeah, you got it).
I know there are many who are encouragers, but I want to speak to all who have diamonds over their heads. That’s all of us. We are all so much more precious to him than any gem here on earth. Even diamonds!
When you look in the mirror know that you sparkle in so many ways you might not immediately recognize. Ask God to give you his eyes and then see what you can see. I bet you’ll have to shield your eyes as the reflection of your beauty can’t be directly stared at.
And that’s abundant life. To know just how loved and adored we are. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. He came to wipe away vision that’s become normal and give us his, beauty for ashes.
Blessings,
Jesse and Kara
