Have you ever held a door open for someone else or had them do this for you? This is about the smallest possible gesture of social grace, but it comes in larger versions. Have you ever been in a group of people and been the first to take the risk to be vulnerable and share your weaknesses or shortcomings? What usually happens as a result? Doesn’t this open the door for others to do the same thing? This allows everyone to take part in a discussion that goes deeper than the superficial and artificial? Haven’t you found such encounters to be healing for you? But someone has to be the first to open the door.
