In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve chose not to live out of the supernatural realm and dependence on God. They determined to live from their heads rather than their hearts, resolving to decide on their own between good and evil (Gen. 3:5).
But God did not give up on humankind that easily. When our minds rest at night, our spirits still fellowship with God. Even though we abandoned relationship with Him and chose to live out of our minds during the day, God knew He could still reach us at night through our dreams. This was His back-up plan.
God is in relentless pursuit of our hearts. There is a beautiful Scripture hidden in the Song of Solomon that reveals what happens as we rest at night: “I slept but my heart was awake. Listen! My beloved is knocking…” (Song of Sol. 5:2).
While our physical body is asleep in this world, our heart is very much awake and alive to the spirit realm. Our Beloved is knocking on the door of our hearts while we sleep, and He longs for that precious communion He created us to share with Him. He would not risk losing His connection with us, His most personal and cherished creation, so He fashioned us with a spirit just like His—one that never sleeps.
This is what you were made for—intimacy with God. Step into a supernatural encounter with the Lover of your soul each and every night…hear God through your dreams!
