No Better Time for the Abiding Realities of Faith, Hope and Love Than RIGHT NOW!
It appears to me, and I bet to you, that America is completely falling apart. Everything is distorted and upside down. It would be so easy to cry out, "God, where are You? Why aren’t You doing something? Evil is all around us. Doom is before us. Destruction is in our path. I am in despair."
This month's video special is Counseled by God. I believe we all need God to counsel us in the midst of this trying storm. Rather than crumble in defeat and despair, Jesus tells us how to build a house that stands strong in the midst of the storm:
"Why do you call Me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say? Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.
"But the one who has heard and has not acted accordingly is like a man who built a house on the ground without any foundation; and the torrent burst against it and immediately it collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great." (Lk. 6:46-49)
So Jesus gives three steps to standing in the midst of the storms of life:
- I come to Jesus.
- I hear what He says to me.
- I act on what He says to me.
That is exactly what you are going to do over and over in the Counseled by God series. It is when we take our emotional upsets to Jesus and let Him speak into them and respond with “Yes, Lord” that we move from gloom and doom, anger and bitterness back into His abiding realities of faith, hope and love (1 Cor. 13:13).
I don’t know about you, but I’ve tried gloom and doom and it's just no fun. I can’t stand it. It is hard to enjoy life, find a reason for living or to evangelize and share the good news of the gospel when I am gloomy and depressed.
Let's see how King David responds when he is afflicted. He speaks life over himself, not death:
"The LORD takes pleasure in me; When I am afflicted He makes me beautiful with His salvation. I exult in glory; I sing for joy on my bed. The high praises of God are in my mouth, and a two-edged sword in my hand, to execute vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples, to bind their kings with chains and their nobles with fetters of iron, to execute on them the judgment written; this is an honor for all His godly ones. Praise the LORD!" (Ps. 149:4-9 personalized and paraphrased)
I suggest now is a good time to review the training module on Counseled by God so that you speak life and stand in faith, hope and love, and don’t allow your house to be blown down by this storm. Check out this blog which expands this truth!
