My guest story today is another one from my friend, Praying Medic. He’s a paramedic and has been for much longer than me. It’s amazing to hear about how God is using him as he serves the sick and injured. He’s an amazing example of how an ordinary person can live the extraordinary life of Jesus.
Connect with him at www.mewe.com and on his website www.prayingmedic.com The story below is from his book, My Craziest Adventures With God Volume 1. Make sure you grab this one. It will certainly encourage and inspire you.
The Wrong Rotator Cuff
One of the hazards of surgery is accidentally removing the wrong body part. There are thousands of cases of “medical misadventures” every year: patients who have the wrong kidney removed, the wrong leg amputated or just about any other mistake you can think of. Understandably, when things like this happen, patients are never happy about it.
One day I prayed with a sweet 94 year-old woman who was admitted to a hospital for nausea and back pain. During her stay she developed short pauses in her heart rhythm. There was a possibility that the short pauses in her rhythm would become long pauses or that her heart would stop beating altogether. Her doctor arranged to have her transferred to a larger hospital where she would have a pacemaker implanted.
She was the sweetest little old lady. I told her I’d adopt her as my grandmother if she wanted another grandson. She didn’t want anyone to make a fuss over her and she smiled about everything. During the transport I put the blood pressure cuff on her left arm. “Oh, please be careful with my arm. I have a torn rotator cuff and frozen shoulder and it hurts.”
Because her arm was too small for a regular adult cuff, I gently wrapped the pediatric cuff around her upper arm. When I was done taking her blood pressure I gently took the cuff off. “You know… I pray with a lot of my patients and a fair number of them are healed. How would you like to have that frozen shoulder healed?”
“Oh, that would be wonderful!” She told me about Jesus and the things He’d done in her life. I gently touched her left shoulder. “I command pain and inflammation to leave. Spirits of pain get out. Muscles, ligaments, tendons, bones and nerves, in the name of Jesus I command you to be healed.” I don’t like “formulas” very much, but this is one I routinely use for healing orthopedic injuries. I rarely deviate from it, unless the Holy Spirit shows me something different. I also learned that it’s a good idea to command spirits to leave as a matter of protocol, even if I don’t sense that a spirit is present. Most of the people I pray for who have sprains, strains, tears and fractures are healed this way.
I asked the Holy Spirit to come with His power and presence and I prayed over her shoulder three times. I also commanded her heart to be healed. After each time, I asked if she felt anything or if she could raise her arm. She didn’t feel anything and couldn’t lift her arm when I was done. I’ll admit I was a bit puzzled. I really expected her to be healed. We continued the transport and I did my charting. Ten minutes later, just before we arrived at the destination hospital, she raised her right arm in surprise and said, “I can’t believe it. My shoulder is healed! Praise God! It’s a miracle!” Now I was really confused.
“Ma’am, I thought it was your left shoulder that had the torn rotator cuff and was frozen. That’s the one I prayed for.”
“Sonny, I didn’t tell you this, but both my shoulders were frozen. I’m right-handed and this is the one that really needed to be healed. I don’t care as much about my left shoulder.” She was praising Jesus as we wheeled her into the hospital.
We took her to the cath lab and transferred her to the bed. I gave report to the nurse. Yes, I told them she was healed on the way. The gals in the cath lab have been hearing my stories. Maybe one day soon they’ll have their own healing stories to share with me.
