“Christ I” vs. the “Self I” “I do nothing on my own initiative.” Rejecting humanism and rationalism We were created to live in and out of intimacy with Almighty God. Like Adam, we are to walk with Jesus in the cool of the day, and see Him, talk with Him, and receive His revelation and anointing to accomplish the things He asks us to do. This could be called living out of the “Christ I”, or living out of our union with Christ (1 Cor. 6:17). The devil's temptation in the Garden was that man live out of himself, acquire his own wisdom and knowledge, and move with his own power. He said, “You will be like God, knowing good and evil.” In accepting this temptation, mankind moved from being a vessel which contained God to being a vessel that manifested satan and his demons. The two key words in satan's temptation were “you” and “know.” From these two words we now have built two philosophies, humanism and rationalism. Humanism reveres the efforts of humans as the center of life, and rationalism centralizes man's reasoning process. Both philosophies are satan's alternatives to God's original plan. Both are wrong, and both are idolatry. And God has made it extremely clear in the Ten Commandments that He hates idolatry and has forbidden it. Jesus lived out of divine flow, and by becoming the Second Adam He reversed what the first Adam had done. Jesus insisted that He did nothing out of His own initiative but only said what He heard the Father saying and did what He saw the Father doing (Jn. 5:17,19,20,30; 8:26,28). Thus Jesus stepped away from both humanism and rationalism, and back to revelation knowledge and divine anointing, which are at the heart of Christianity. When Paul declared that we have died and Christ is our life (Gal. 2:20), and that we must die daily (1 Cor. 15:31), I understand that he was insisting that we must return to the lifestyle of Adam in the Garden of Eden, and Jesus, as He walked in Nazareth. We die to our own self-initiative, except to choose to connect to the indwelling Christ and to release Him. We choose to labor to do only one thing -- to come to rest, to cease our own laboring, and to touch and release the Spirit of Christ out through our beings (Heb. 4). I live out of the “Christ I” by continuously doing the following:

'Do You want to cross?' I asked. 'Why yes,' he replied with a kind-hearted grin. 'May I come aboard?' “I recognized Him right off. It wasn't so much His physical appearance, but His distinct un-worldly presence that tipped me off -- it was Jesus all right. “He gathered up His robe and waded out into knee-deep water, then heaved Himself over the gunnels into the boat. Without a word we set off for the opposite shore, but I couldn't help but notice that He was watching me intently. Then He spoke, 'Cody, I can see that you are a very skilled sailor. The wind is barely blowing, yet you sense its direction by turning your face skyward and feeling the way it moves over the down-like hairs on your ears. Walking in the spirit is often like that. It's a still small voice that you will miss completely if you're not paying close attention.' (1 Kings 19:12) “It was Mark Virkler's book, Dialogue With God, that had encouraged me to quiet my mind and to imagine myself in this biblical scene with Jesus. While I began this experiment with great hopes, I really couldn't believe how vividly things were unfolding before me in my mind's eye. “Jesus spoke again, 'Cody, there is another thing that you already know: the rudder which steers the boat, only works when the boat is moving.' “I took this to mean that further guidance would come, but only after obeying what I had already been given. I decided to get my boat moving and set sail for Mexico. (Actually I flew, and got the additional assurances I needed along the way.) “Jesus often taught through parables and will still reveal things to us in that way if we are alert to the possibility. He may or may not do something similar for you; apparently He enjoys being creative in dealing with each of us uniquely as individuals. The good news is that He continues to deal with us.” By R.
