O'Toole Humor Heals: The difference between hymns and choruses An old farmer went to the city one weekend and attended the big city church. He came home and his wife asked him how it was. “Well,” said the farmer, “It was good. They did something different, however. They sang praise choruses instead of hymns.” “Praise choruses?” said his wife, “What are those?” “Oh, they're okay. They're sort of like hymns, only different,” said the farmer. “Well, what's the difference?” asked his wife. The farmer said, “Well, it's like this: if I were to say to you ‘Martha, the cows are in the corn,’ well, that would be a hymn. If on the other hand, I was to say to you: ‘Martha, Martha, Martha, Oh Martha, MARTHA, MARTHA the cows, the big cows, the brown cows, the black cows, the white cows, the black and white cows. The COWS, COWS, COWS are in the corn, are in the corn, are in the corn, are in the corn, the CORN, CORN, CORN.’ Then if I were to repeat the whole thing two or three times, well, that would be a praise chorus.” As luck would have it, the same Sunday a young, new Christian from the city church attended the small town church. He came home and his wife asked him how it was. “Well,” said the young man, “It was good. They did something different, however. They sang hymns instead of regular songs.” “Hymns?” said his wife, “What are those?” “Oh, they are okay. They're sort of like regular songs, only different,” said the young man. “Well, what's the difference?” asked his wife. The young man said, “Well, it's like this--if I were to say to you, ‘Martha, the cows are in the corn,’ well that would be a regular song. If, on the other hand I were to say to you: ‘Oh Martha, dear Martha, hearest thou my cry. Inclinest thine ear to the words of my mouth. Turn thou thy whole wondrous ear by and by to the righteous, inimitable, glorious truth. ‘For the way of the animals who can explain? There in their heads is no shadow of sense. Hearken they in God's sun or His rain unless from the mild, tempting corn they are fenced. Yea those cows in glad bovine, rebellious delight have broken free their shackles, their warm pens eschewed. Then goaded by minions of darkness and night they all my mild Chilliwack sweet corn have chewed. So look to that bright shining day by and by. Where all foul corruptions of earth are reborn. Where no vicious animal makes my soul cry, and I no longer see those foul cows in the corn.’ Then if I were to do only verses l, 3 and 4 and do a key change, that would be a hymn.” You can help by linking your website to ours! You gradually lost interest in school and couldn't wait to leave. Do you remember this, My son?” “Yes Lord, I do.” “I want you to visit that classroom again in prayer, but this time we are going together. What do you see?” “I see You, Lord, standing by my side as he made fun of me.” “What did I do with you?” “Lord, You are bending down, putting Your arm around me and saying, 'It's okay, it's only a joke, he doesn't mean anything by it, don't take it to heart. I love you just the way you are, you are not inferior to them. So hold your head up high, you are Mine, and you don't know it yet, but I have great plans for you in the future.' I feel warm and secure with Your arm around my shoulder. I feel protected and at peace.” “Now I want you to forgive Mr. Green, and your class friends.” “Lord, I forgive them for their careless remarks. I ask You to cleanse my thoughts in the conscious, unconscious and subconscious parts of my mind and fill them with Your thoughts. Do not allow your vision and focus to go on man, but keep it on GOD SO LOVED, THAT HE GAVE! “Again, see Jeanie as a tender flower. When showered upon and treated with tender care, it will blossom and bring forth a rare and beautiful smell and aroma. When you give to her, you are watering this flower, and when you put her first and give out of My love and resources, it is like the sun beaming down upon that flower and giving it strength to be beautiful and bright. “Your fear of being taken advantage of with Jeanie is unfounded. She loves you and is committed to you. Invest in her. There are great dividends ahead. She is the best investment you could ever have. She is well worth selling all and to invest in and pour into. Be sensitive to her today, serve her. Help her with the children. Be on the lookout to where you can bless her. “You will not regret it. I never once have regretted giving My all. Pouring out My entire life for you and all the world. You are well worth it. I would do it all over again if it was necessary. Greater love has no man than this, that he give his life for another. Give your life for Jeanie. There is no greater love. See and receive My love for you and then give it away. This is My commandment that you love one another. In doing this your joy will be full. I love you, Mike, with tender love and with an everlasting love!” Mike Bastien, Canada A Word to the A.W.O.L. Intercessors: The War is NOT Over – Rick Ridings (The following was taken from The Elijah List.) I was awakened in the early hours on July 22, with the word “A.W.O.L.” strongly impressed on my mind. Then I sensed the Lord saying: “The large part of my intercessors that were called to the battle for Iraq have now gone ‘A.W.O.L.’ – ‘absent without leave’. I never said the battle was over. But My intercessors let up when they heard the secular media declaring that the main military war was over. Since when have I called My intercessors to receive their battle orders from the secular media? The battle is far from over. You must continue to strike the arrows against the ground until the Enemy’s resistance (to My purposes) is truly broken. “And what are My purposes for Iraq? Are they not revealed in Isaiah 19? Much of Iraq is included in My promises concerning Assyria: Isaiah 19:23-25 ‘In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria. The Assyrians will go to Egypt and the Egyptians to Assyria. The Egyptians and Assyrians will worship together. In that day Israel will be the third, along with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing on the earth. The LORD Almighty will bless them, saying, “Blessed be Egypt My people, Assyria My handiwork, and Israel My inheritance.”’” Return to the Battlefield of Intercession So this is not a time to ease up your intercession for Iraq. If you do not return to the battlefield of intercession, even the little that was gained could be taken back by the Enemy. I am calling you to hold what was taken, and to keep striking the arrows against the ground so that much more ground may be taken. Keep on proclaiming Jeremiah 50 and 51 as to what I am doing in this region. Keep on proclaiming Isaiah 19 as to what I will do in this region. And keep sending confusion against the Enemy as you continue to praise and worship Me for My sovereign and good plans for this region. For this area is key to the fulfillment of My covenant promises to both the “sons of Isaac” (the Jews) and to the “sons of Ishmael” (the Arabs). [Note: I received the above message in the early hours of July 22nd. I began to proclaim Jeremiah 51, especially verse 3, which says of Babylon (which is in Iraq) to “completely destroy her army”; verse 13 which states the “time has come for you to be cut off”; and verse 23 which states that God shatters the governors and officials (of Babylon)“. Later that day, the news came that the two sons of Saddam Hussein had been killed. I felt that was confirmation that I needed to send out this word more widely.
