Do you take a short or long term view of life? My word even acknowledges that sin offers pleasure for a season, but the end thereof is still death. Yet you don’t have to wait that long to see the consequences of it. Right decisions are enduring.
Does it make you feel deprived to do the right thing? Yet you can find happiness in doing the right thing now, and you will be happier still twenty years from now. This is not as much a matter of delayed gratification as it is seeing afar off and conforming your behavior to the values of eternity. If you live in such a way that you will be happy in twenty years you will be happier still in two hundred years.
